Ett par narcisser lågo kastade på golvet. Hall strök sig gång på gång genom håret med ett förstrött uttryck. -- Ja, så går vi då, sade han slutligen och reste sig med någon ansträngning. Operan hade nästan fullt hus. Det klack till i Tomas, då han under en mellanakt upptäckte Märta Brehms fina, drömmande huvud uppe på första raden. Vem hade hon i sällskap? En liten knubbig dam med rikt, askblont hår böjde sig just fram och talade med henne, men hon höll solfjädern för ansiktet. Nu slog hon ihop den -- å, fru Wenschen!
